Cathy Astolfi : artist
I am a visual artist based in Calvi, Corsica. My artistic practice explores earth, painting, and drawing on paper, canvas, or walls, through murals and various site-specific projects. My work is inspired by my natural environment and the mineral world. Rocks, strata, textures, reliefs, and raw materials nourish my imagination and my artistic language. These elements are not merely forms or landscapes: they become metaphors, sensitive allegories through which I explore my interest in the human soul, its fragility, its strengths, and its transformations.
Matter is at the heart of my approach. Clay, in particular, occupies an essential place: a living, archaic, and universal material, it allows for a direct dialogue between the body, gesture, and emotion. Working with clay is, for me, an exploration of the connection between inner and outer worlds, between what is shaped and what resists.
Alongside my studio work, I have been developing an artistic outreach and mediation practice for several years. I have worked in schools and currently lead art workshops for adults throughout the year. I also offer workshops in specialized settings, working with vulnerable populations or people with disabilities, using art as a space for expression, empowerment, and connection.
My approach is caring, inclusive, and tailored to each individual.
Through both creation and transmission, my work explores matter as language, and art as a sensitive, living, and profoundly human space. Today, I work with matter as one explores an inner landscape.
Earth, minerals, strata, and textures are my primary sources of inspiration: they carry the memory of time, transformation, and resilience. Through them, I seek less to represent the world than to offer a sensitive interpretation, an allegory of the human soul. What cracks, what crumbles, what slowly consolidates, becomes language. For me, creating is an act of presence, a dialogue between body, matter, and emotion, where each gesture leaves a trace, and where transformation becomes (perhaps) a form of healing.
My artistic creations are present in private collections in France and abroad.
I am a visual artist, and for several years, I have devoted myself to contemporary ceramics by revisiting the ancestral techniques of modeling clays collected during my travels and during my walks in the mountains of Corsica.
My work is present in the auction room, listed on Auction, Drouot and the images are protected by ADAGP.
